Yep, another one wiped out another "Gold Rush Town" within the last day or so. We're still adding on up north and won't have the Santa Ana winds down south for another month or so (hot, fast winds that grief the LA and San Bernardino areas every year). It's a big state; we have a lot of real estate to burn... Then we rebuild in the same areas and wait.
The smoke we're getting locally is from fires about 200 miles north of us (last year's big one was thirty to fifty miles north). We're in a basin in the Central Valley: smoke and smog funnel right down from the Bay Area, Sacramento, and points north and settle in; the high pressure systems typically in place act as a "cap" to keep winds from clearing things out.
